David Fontán Bestilleiro (A Coruña, 1992) has a degree in Journalism (2015) and History (2017) and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education (2018) and Contemporary History (2020) from the University of Santiago de Compostela. In addition to his professional career in journalism and communication, he has carried out various investigations in the field of rural history, especially from the social, political and environmental perspectives. In 2018 he carried out a research stay at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and recently worked as a researcher hired by the HISTAGRA group at the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory (https://barbanzaecosocial.org/). PhD thesis in Contemporary History (USC) in the field of rural areas and environmental history. The research aims to study the organization and use of the territory in three communal spaces in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula (Galicia and North of Portugal) that today have various environmental protection figures. From the historical analysis, the objective is to better understand the great value that is recognized today in these spaces, a product of the coevolution between societies and nature and, therefore, the legacy of local communities.
