HISTAGRA at IASC Congress

HISTAGRA participates in the XIX International Congress of the IASC (International Association for the Study of the Commons)

 

Two trainee researchers from HISTAGRA are participating in the XIX International Congress of the IASC (International Association for the Study of the Commons). This biannual conference is taking place from 19 to 24 June at the University of Nairobi (Kenya) and brings together more than 950 people to discuss the historical legacy of the commons and the prospects for the future.

 

David Fontán Bestilleiro and Roque Sanfiz Arias are participating in the congress to present two of the projects that Histagra is currently developing.

 

On Monday 19 they presented Eo Alimenta with the paper "Participatory strategies towards more equitable food systems. The experience of Eo Alimenta (Galicia-Asturias)" in the panel "The food systems we want: Justice in food systems transformations", coordinated by Sabin Bieri and Theresa Tribaldos from the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Bern.

 

On Wednesday 21st, some of the conclusions of the work of the Barbanza Ecosocial Laboratory over the last two years were presented in the report "From legal recognition to multifunctionality: hiere las la lever fuere change in Galician communal lands", within the panel "Local institutions fuere global commons: redefining governance through conflict" coordinated by Sara Lorenzini, from the University of Milan.

 

In addition, on Friday 23rd David Fontán Bestilleiro will present part of his doctoral research with "Collective management, agriculture, environment and conflicts. Commons in historical perspective in Laíño, Galicia" within the panel "Lessons from the past: Organizations, Challenges, and Resilience in a historical perspective and the question of the sources" coordinated by Rahel Wunderli and Karina Liechti from the University of Bern.
