HISTAGRA at the Homage to Juan Rof Codina

HISTAGRA participated in the tribute to Juan Rof Codina
Last Thursday 6th October, the PI of HISTAGRA and Professor of Contemporary History of the USC Lourenzo Fernández Prieto gave a lecture entitled "Rof Codina (1971-1967), a scientist from when veterinarians learned from farmers", as part of the tribute to Juan Rof Codina on the occasion of the celebration of Science Day in Galicia.
Among the ideas that Fernández Prieto presented about the veterinarian, he highlighted the enthusiasm that Rof - the "Catalan from Lugo" as he was remembered - showed since he arrived in Galicia for the Galician rural world, its agriculture and livestock.
Lourenzo Fernández recalled the mark he left as an expert in agricultural health and hygiene, his valorisation of the Galician cow, his involvement in politics through Solidaridad Gallega and his promotion of trade unions and agricultural associations, as well as livestock competitions.
In the HISTAGRA Group, we are pleased to have among our collaborating researchers Diego Conde, one of the greatest experts on Rof Codina -author of a thesis on the character: "Veterinaria y mejora pecuaria en la Galicia contemporánea. el papel de Juan Rof Codina", under the direction of Lourenzo Fernández Prieto and Manuel Cifuentes Martínez-, as well as a recent doctoral thesis by Telmo Otero on this subject: "La transformación de la agricultura gallega en el camino hacia especialización lechera: Ruptura con la innovación labradora, industria láctea y modernización (1900-1980)" (The transformation of Galician agriculture on the road to dairy specialisation: Rupture with farming innovation, dairy industry and modernisation (1900-1980)).
