Adra Padron wins the POY Latam 2025 jury prize

A visual work on colonisation villages awarded the POY Latam prize

The artist Adra Padron from Lugo has been recognised with the POY Latam prize for his photographic series on the colonisation villages of Lugo, a work carried out under the agreement signed on this subject by the University of Santiago de Compostela and the Castro de Rei Town Council, with the support of the Lugo Provincial Council.

Paisajes inventados (Invented Landscapes) is a series of portraits in which the artist from Lugo explores the colonisation process carried out by Franco's regime in Terra Chá. In his own words: "Ana Cabana, an expert in colonisation, contacted me to discuss a project promoted by the USC (University of Santiago de Compostela) involving a multidisciplinary team. The aim is to rescue the memory and history of the settlers, preserve their legacy and pay tribute to what was the epicentre of agricultural and livestock modernity in Galicia. I found it fascinating."

POY Latam was created in 2011 by Pablo Corral Vega and Loup Langton to celebrate excellence in documentary photography in Latin America. Over the years, it has established itself as the most important non-profit competition in the region, with a unique approach: a public, open and transparent jury that turns each edition into a living school of photography.
