Lecture of the HISTAGRA Uncomfortable Pasts Cycle: María Antonia Martí Escayol
On Friday 29 November 2024, the HISTAGRA Group is organising a new lecture in the series Inconvenient Pasts 2024-2025. The lecture will be given by María Antonia Martí Escayol, professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The event will be presented by Stefania Barca and David Soto of the HISTAGRA Group.
María Antonia Martí Escayol holds a PhD in History, is a writer, translator and lecturer at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (since 2000). She is a specialist in environmental humanities, modern history and East Asian culture, and her current work focuses on ecocriticism and the links between aesthetic practices and environmental justice.
The theme she is presenting is entitled ‘The Coscoesto Anti-Mine Movement’. In April 2013, a large group of demonstrators had demonstrated a resounding rejection of the Corcoesto gold mine. Neighbours from Cabanas, Coristanco, Carballo and other municipalities on the Costa da Morte took part in this mobilisation.
