Work begins on the exhumation of the Narón grave. Phase II
HISTAGRA coordinates the exhumation works of the Santa María del Val de Narón grave. Phase II
The team of the Galician Democratic Memory Plan is working since Monday 4th November in the grave of Santa María do Val (Narón), in the search for information to confirm the hypothesis of location of the grave, assess its magnitude and determine its degree of alteration.
The intervention in progress includes different tastings in the front area of the niches located at the back of the old part of the cemetery and one of the side corners. Evidence continues to emerge to support the hypothesis of the location of the grave in this place and it remains to be seen to what extent the construction of the niches affected its integrity.
The four-year Democratic Memory Plan, which covers this work, integrates three fundamental strategic lines of public policies of Democratic Memory that are intended to be developed throughout the period (2021-2024), although its objectives can be revised annually. These strategic lines are:
- Location, exhumation of graves and identification of victims.
- Dissemination of work carried out and results achieved.
- Recognition of burial sites and promotion of places of memory.
Contact with social agents is essential - in this case the support of the Asociación de Memoria Democrática de Ferrol - and we call on all those who wish to exhume or investigate graves related to Franco's violence, as well as to provide information about them.
