Luis Toledo Machado (1994) holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2023). He holds a degree in History (2016) and an Interuniversity Master's Degree in Contemporary History (2017) from the same institution.
Between 2017 and 2022 he was a beneficiary of the Ayudas para la Formación del Profesorado Universitario (FPU) and, currently, he enjoys the Axudas de apoio á etapa de formación posdoutoral de la Xunta de Galicia. He has received the National End of Degree Awards in Higher Education (Ministry of Universities), the Extraordinary End of Degree Award (Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the Autonomous University of Madrid) and the Graduate Prize of the Center for Communal Studies (University of Southern Indiana, USA).
His main line of research is rural utopian communities in the second half of the 20th century in the Atlantic area. He is currently working on a research project entitled "Utopia, Community and Ecological Alternatives. The "return to the countryside" in the Atlantic Lusophony".
He has participated in various state projects, including those of the HISTOPIA Team, coordinated by Juan Pro Ruiz (CSIC). His scientific contributions have appeared in journals such as Journal of Iberian and Latin American Studies, Historia Contemporánea and El Futuro del Pasado. In 2019 he made a stay at Princeton University (USA). Between October 2024 and September 2025 he will visit the Laboratório História e Natureza (LabHeN) at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
