HISTAGRA coordinated the act of reparation held in Celanova with the delivery of the mortal remains of those murdered by Franco's regime to their relatives.

 

The HISTAGRA group, as one of the members of the Plan of Democratic Memory of Galicia 2021-2024 completed yesterday Thursday 22 June the tasks started in 2022 in the grave of those killed by Franco in Celanova in 1939.

 

The event was chaired by the mayor of Celanova, Antonio Puga, the sub-delegate of the government in Ourense, Emilio González, the Minister of Presidency of the Principality of Asturias, Rita Camblor and the PI of the Democratic Memory Plan, Lourenzo Fernández Prieto.

 

In November 2022 the team of the Memory Plan -with the invaluable help of Celanova's Democratic Memory Commission- intervened in the cemetery of San Breixo, Celanova, in the search for the remains of Abelardo Suárez del Busto, Alfonso Moreno Gayol, Baldomero Vigil Escalera Vallejo, Belarmino Álvarez García, Guillermo de Diego Álvarez, Marcelino Fernández García and Mariano Blanco González. All of them were murdered, after being sentenced to death, on 22 September 1939, against the walls of the cemetery itself, by the forces of the Bandeira de Fet de las Jons de Marruecos. Of these, the remains of Marcelino and Abelardo were identified, and yesterday, Thursday, they were handed over to their daughter and grandchildren to be taken to Gijón, where they will rest forever.
