HISTAGRA in the workshop "A ecoloxía política das paisaxes"

HISTAGRA participates in the workshop "The political ecology of landscapes" organised at CISPAC
On Friday 28 October at 09:45, HISTAGRA researcher Stefania Barca and HISTAGRA researcher Carlos Benitez are organising the workshop "The political ecology of landscapes", which will be held at CISPAC throughout the day.
The researcher in training David Fontán will also participate as a commentator in one of the sessions.
The workshop is organised as part of the projects Indixenismo desarrollista y movilización indígena en el Brasil contemporáneo:imaginarios sociales, conflictos medioambientales y lucha política (IP Carlos Benítez Trinidad) and Retención y captación de talento: Ayuda consolidación investigación programas Acciones I+D (Xunta 2022) (IP Stefania Barca).
This workshop focuses on one of the fields of knowledge that has the greatest potential to generate knowledge within CISPAC: political ecology. Within this field of study, both interdisciplinary research and a holistic epistemology are privileged in order to understand aspects such as environmental conflicts, inequalities in access to resources and levels of pollution, environmental policies, networks of resistance and social movements, and the potential and challenges of ecological transition. Demonstrating, in itself, its potential as a generative field for the study of landscapes.
It also aims to discuss the political ecology approach (as a conceptual and methodological toolbox) to the study of landscapes, focusing on the relationship between landscape change and changing configurations of power (property, race, class and gender relations) in different contexts. Crossing all of CISPAC's research fields (production, population, governance and tourism), it will form the basis for a fruitful exchange of ideas to enhance synergies for national and international projects and initiatives. Therefore, it is expected that ideas, proposals and scientific-technical collaborations will emerge from this activity both among researchers from CISPAC itself, as an emerging centre, and with other national and international researchers, centres and projects.
The workshop is structured as an opportunity to present both consolidated approaches and emerging perspectives in landscape political ecology. Therefore, a panel of invited speakers from different contexts and professional stages is proposed; the workshop will take place in two sessions, each with two presentations by invited speakers, discussed by CISPAC commentators and followed by a general debate.
The event will take place at CISPAC's premises, in the Fontán building of the Cidade da Cultura and, although it will be attended by several international and national experts, it is intended to be an internal scientific meeting of the research centre itself. For this reason, it is framed in the category of non-international Scientific Meeting.
