Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 3, the works that, through the Quadrennial Agreement of Democratic Memory signed between the Xunta de Galicia and the USC, allow the work of exhumation of the common grave will begin It contains the bodies of assassinated by Franco's violence between 1936 and 1937.
This irregular burial is the first to be exhumed in Galicia following the action protocol promoted by the HISTAGRA Group and with the support of IMELGA and the USC Legal Medicine Group.
The working group is made up of the Professor of Contemporary History of the USC Lourenzo Fernández Prieto, the archaeologist and researcher of the USC José Carlos Sánchez Pardo, the forensic doctor of IMELGA Ferando Serrulla Rech and the Professor of Legal Medicine of the USC Ángel Carracedo Alvarez.
With the support of the Vilagarcía city council, and the local cultural association O Faiado da Memoria, the archaeological work begins in the Municipal Cemetery.
We hope to be able to find and identify the bodies of 18 people murdered between 1936 and 1937 in Vilagarcía de Arousa, and irregularly buried in this space. To reach this stage, the HISTAGRA Group proceeded to an exhaustive investigation work in archives of Galicia: Municipal de Vilagarcía, Military Archive of Ferrol, Civil archive of death of Vilagarcía and terraememoria. usc. USC gal. After the archaeological work that will be carried out by the company Tempos Arquelogos and supervised by Dr. Sánchez Pardo, the forensic analyzes will be carried out by Serrulla Rech and the DNA analyzes in the Carracedo Álvarez laboratory, to end with the dignity of the space .
