Places of violence: places of memory and amnesia. Routes for the coupist violence of 1936 and its consequences in Galicia

Objectives of the workshop
The history of the coup of 1936 is written, too, on the territory, indicated in various places of violence. What were prisons, military barracks and militias, concentration camps, places of execution and burial, graves ... are dispersed throughout the Galician territory marking the geographical milestones of a process of persecution and extermination linked to the violent seizure of power . Galicia that was taken by the coup leaders before the end of July 1936 constituted, in a certain sense, a laboratory of the practices of violence that were lived in Europe in the context of the 1930s and the Second World War. Here the coup leaders launched in the first instance the techniques of elimination of their declared enemies that later extended to other territories and institutionalized under the Franco dictatorship
