The jury emphasised that it is a study of the repression in Galicia during the civil war and Franco's regime that compiles copious information and offers abundant data on the victims. It is a long-running project that has involved the participation of the three Galician public universities, as well as numerous groups and individuals. The jury valued its interdisciplinary nature with a research, dissemination and transfer to society, with free and open access to the work.
The Research Project ‘Nomes e Voces’ was born under the protection of the works that were carried out around the Year of Memory 2006, promoted by the Consellaría de Cultura e Deporte of the Xunta de Galicia. The project was entrusted with the task of studying the violence of the coup during the war and post-war period, as well as offering society data on the people who suffered some kind of persecution during this period. This task was approached from the perspective of historical research, as part of society's growing interest in the study of Francoist violence and its consequences. The project was carried out by a research group made up of leading specialists in the ‘violence of 1936’ in Galicia, coordinated by the Professor of Contemporary History, Lourenzo Fernández Prieto. Alongside him were the professors Emilio F. Grandío Seoane, Mª Jesús Souto Blanco, Julio Prada Rodríguez, Xosé Manoel Núñez Seixas and the researchers Dionisio Pereira, Xurxo Pantaleón, Andrés Domínguez Almansa, Antonio Miguez Macho, Antonio Somoza, Mónica Rocha, Gustavo Hervella, Eva Vieites and Natalia Novoa Dominguez, who worked mainly along three lines:
1. The constitution of a collection of recordings on the oral memory of the war.
2. The elaboration of a nominal list of the victims
3. The establishment of a cartography of the ‘repression’.
