HISTAGRA Research Fellow at the University of Zürich

Bruno Esperante begins a research stay at the University of Zurich  

 

Bruno Esperante, member of the HISTAGRA group and professor of Economic History at the University of Santiago de Compostela, begins a research stay in the Area of History of Medicine at the Institute of Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine (IBME) of the University of Zurich (Switzerland).

 

At the invitation of Professor Flurin Condrau, he will develop his postdoctoral research line on the environmental impacts of industrial livestock farming in Western Europe in the 20th century. The stay will last 4 months. From 20 May to 21 September 2024.

 

The Department of History of Medicine is part of the Institute for Biomedical Ethics and the History of Medicine at the University of Zurich (UZH). It is an interdisciplinary chair and is involved in research and teaching at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Philosophy. Prof Dr phil. Flurin Condrau is the principal investigator of the Department of the History of Medicine. The researchers of the Department of History of Medicine are also members of the Centre "History of Knowledge" (Centre of Excellence of UZH and ETH Zürich) and participate in the AG Medical Humanities. The Department of the History of Medicine provides the Institute for the History of Medicine, founded in 1951.  From 1957 to 1971, the German-American medical historian, physician and ethnologist Erwin H. Ackerknecht (1906-1988) was the president of the Institute. Ackerknecht made the Zurich Institute internationally known.
