Aurora Artiaga Rego (1960) became a doctor of Contemporary History from the  Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (1989) with the thesis A desamortización da provincia de Pontevedra, 1855-1900 (‘Ecclesiastical confiscations in the province of Pontevedra, 1855-1900’), directed by professor Ramón Villares Paz. She has been a lecturer at the Department of Contemporary and American History since 1991. She was a visiting teacher at the Department of Spanish Language and Civilisation of the Université Rennes 2 Haute Bretagne (1988-1989).

Her lines of research are agrarian history, contemporary history, history of Galicia and environmental history.
